The “facilitator” is a guide or “discussion leader” for the group. The process of facilitation is a wayof providing leadership without taking the reigns.

A facilitator’s job is to get others to assume responsibility and take the lead.

Facilitator Focus

A facilitative leader focuses on both content and process. They are the “content and process leader.”

v  Methods & procedures v  Leads in subjects for discussion
v  Relations management v  Directs on the task
v  Tools being used v  Influences on decisions being made (expert opinion)
v  Rules & norms set v  Involved in the problem solving process
v  Manages the group dynamics v  Prepares the agenda items
v  Manages the workshop climate v  Outlines the goals
